Altura is a small seaside town with an amazing kilometer-long beach. This beach extends east to the larger resort of Monte Gordo and the border river with Spain, the Guadiana. The village has some supermarkets, restaurants (also on the beach) and of course cafes.
Especially in summer it is very lively with mostly Portuguese and Spanish guests. In spring and autumn it is nice and quiet.
