Almancil is only a 15 minute drive from Faro airport. It is a somewhat crowded town that is mainly known for its location near the famous large seaside villa parks: Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago and the somewhat smaller Dunas Douradas and Vale do Garrão. An important landmark is the church of São Lourenço de Matos. The entire interior is covered with blue and white tiles, the so-called "Azulejos". The town has good shopping opportunities and has several, partly very good, restaurants.
