Description
Quinta do Calderão is a beautiful, newly renovated (2015) eco-lodge with a great location. The eco house gets its hot water (including for heating) from solar panels. The thick walls (70 cm thick) and cork insulation of the roof ensure a good living climate; the pool is cleaned via a salt solution. Water comes from its own borehole. The house is situated on a plot of 20,000 m² and is surrounded by some 300 orange trees, fig trees and olive trees. There is also a beautiful lawn where children can play. You can cool down in the beautiful swimming pool (9x4 m; 1.5 m deep). Those who love cooking can of course use the large open kitchen inside, but cooking in the outdoor kitchen is also an experience! It is a very spacious vacation home (200 m²) with high ceilings and modern furnishings. Because of the thick walls it is a lovely cool house in summer. In winter the wood stove in the living room and radiators in the bedrooms provide the heat.
You have absolute peace and privacy here. A place to relax, unwind or visit the lively coast!
Silves surroundings
The historic town of Silves is 10 km away. This cozy town has interesting sights, museums, narrow streets, authentic cafes and restaurants. Silves is situated on a hill between the foothills of the Serra de Monchique. Also worth a visit is the medieval red Moorish castle. Furthermore, you will find all your groceries, post office, bank, etc. here.
A little closer at about 6 km is Messines. This is still a very original Portuguese village where you can do all your shopping. In the morning you can shop in the covered market hall.
The coast, 25 minutes drive, offers long sandy beaches, coves, rocky beaches and nice tourist towns like Carvoeiro, Armação de Pêra and Albufeira.
Because of its central location, Quinta do Calderão is a perfect starting point for beautiful tours in the hinterland of the Serra do Calderão, the Alentejo and to the rugged west coast Costa Vicentina.
